2014 Winter Olympic Games

Opportunity to Participate from Munich

The 2014 US Winter Olympics team is coming to Munich prior to heading on to the Sochi in February 2014.  The team includes about 250 athletes and 250 support staff.  They will be here from Friday, January 24th until Wednesday, February 5th when they will depart for Sochi.  While here, the team will work out of the distribution center at the Olympic Park, handle organizational matters, and prepare for the Games.  It is quite an honor that Munich has been selected for this support role for the 2014 Olympic Games.

Opportunity knocks:  Ms. Katie Clifford, Manager of Consumer Products for the US Olympics Committee, is seeking 30-40 volunteers per day to help support the team during its stay here.   This is an opportunity for interested members of the AGBC and the other MING (Munich International Networking Group) organizations to be involved in supporting the 2014 Olympic Games.  The support activities will focus on team processing as the first step that delegation members, Team USA athletes and officials will go through prior to departing for the Games site in Sochi. Among the tasks are:

Apparel Support

Assist Ralph Lauren and Nike with clothing try-on and exchanges

Assist Ralph Lauren and Nike with taking measurements for uniform tailoring

Transport/Airport Support

Assist with meet and greet of Team USA at the Munich airport

Load and unload athlete luggage and gear onto buses for transport

Prepare buses for athlete’s departure

Warehouse Support

Assist with the preparation of athletes’ apparel packages

Assist with general organization of apparel warehouse

General Support

Assist with athlete flow in the processing center

Assist with commemorative watch distribution

Assist Proctor and Gamble with assembly and distribution of toiletry kits

Basically the committee needs a variety of volunteers to work directly with the athletes as they make their way through the various stations related to the administrative side of their preparations.  It’s an opportunity to work closely with the teams and to get a behind-the-scenes peek at what it takes to make the team LOOK like a team.  And your participation will add to the fun of watching the Games in Sochi, knowing that you played a role in getting the team prepared.

If you are interested in participating, please click below or paste to obtain further details and an application to volunteer.  Please also inform Larry Schulz (lschulzl@aol.com) of your interest in participating.

Casting Opportunity - House Hunters International: Renovations

Producers of a half-hour TV show, House Hunters International, are looking for expats to cast in a new spin-off House Hunters International: Renovations.

The original show is on the Home and Garden Television Network (HGTV) in the US and the Travel Channel in the UK. The series is designed to de-mystify the international home-buying process, by going behind the scenes of a house hunt where expats and their real estate agents tour 3 homes. At its core, House Hunters International is a travel show concentrating on the idiosyncrasies of the locales and what makes them special and different.

The new spin-off show called House Hunters International: Renovation and producers are looking for expats who have recently bought fabulous properties and are about to embark on some imminent renovations. Ideally they should be outgoing and fun, aged under 50 and have bought a property within the last few years. They are focusing on Munich as well as other European cities.

They are looking to film this year and for the renovation projects to finish by beginning of November (ex. a new kitchen, a small extension etc.)  They have some budget that would go towards finishing the project which makes it a little more interesting!

If you are interested, contact Leopard Films (michelle.james@leopardfilms.com) with your name, phone number, location, project description and they will send you additional information.  Also please inform AAUPW (info@aaupw.de) as  they may ask you to share the experience at a group meeting.
