Munich Dialogues on Democracy – Dr. David Frum - Trumpocalypse – Restoring American Democracy – Save the Date

Speaker: Dr. David Frum, senior writer at “The Atlantic” magazine and author of the 2020 book Trumpocalypse – Restoring American Democracy and the 2018 New York Times bestseller, Trumpocracy – The Corruption of the American Republic.

As with most of networking groups in today’s Coronavirus world, the Munich Dialogues on Democracy is shifting to online events until the crisis passes.

Returning to Dialogues on Democracy, David Frum is a senior writer at The Atlantic. His newest book is Trumpocalypse – Restoring American Democracy, a follow up to his 2018 bestseller, Trumpocracy -The Corruption of the American Republic. Frum posits that a huge swath of Americans has put their faith in Trump, and Trump only, because they see the rest of the country building a future that doesn’t have a place for them. If they would risk their lives for Trump in a pandemic, they will certainly risk the stability of American democracy. They brought the Trumpocalypse upon the country, and a post-Trumpocalypse country will have to find a way to either reconcile them to democracy, or to protect democracy from them.

Mark your calendars now and join us on June 25th at 8:00pm Munich time for a live Zoom event to discuss this with the author. As we get closer, we will post the link to the livestream, as well as a possibility to submit questions for David ahead of the event. We hope to find a format to accept questions during the event as well.

David Frum – further info - Trumpocalypse – Restoring American Democracy is his tenth book. From 2001-2002, Dr. Frum served as a special assistant and speechwriter to President George W. Bush during and after the 9/11 attacks on the United States. He is a recognized intellectual leader of the American conservative movement and was one of the first and foremost conservative Republicans to sound the alarm about the challenge posed by the Trump presidency to US global leadership, open international trade, and democratic institutions. His prophetic 2017 cover story in the Atlantic, How to Build an Autocracy, has been one of the most cited works of the Trump years.

Dr Frum earned a Bachelor and a Master of Arts in history at Yale, then a Doctor of Law degree at Harvard, where he served as president of the Harvard chapter, the Federalist society. He also taught history at Yale from 1986-87.
