FRIENDS OF THE 2019 ENGLISH BOOK SALE – This event is an excellent opportunity to buy good quality English books and DVDs inexpensively - and at the same time support our partner villages involved in the Ilembula Project in Tanzania.  The Ilembula Project supports humanitarian and environmental projects, in particular for needy families and orphans in Tanzania.

Please make a point of holding on to any English books and DVD’s that you no longer need to hang onto and which are in good condition.  You'll have an opportunity to recycle all in aid of the Ilembula Project.

Venue - This year's Book Sale will again be taking place in the Ernst-Mach-Gymnasium, Jagdfeldring 82 in 85540 Haar. Like the Book Sale, this high school is partnered with Ilembula in Tanzania and has again kindly offered us the use of its premises for the Sale. The entire event takes place on the ground floor with good access for strollers, wheelchairs etc., there is also good parking, and the school is just a 10 minute walk from Haar S-Bahn station (S4 and S6); the route will be signposted from the station. For a map showing the school's location, which is close to the Haar tower building on the B304, please see https://goo.gl/maps/ykue1e1w26K2.

There will be thousands of books and DVDs on sale, priced between 50 cents and 5 euros, and as usual you will also have an opportunity to browse and chat over a cup of coffee or tea and home-made cakes. There will also be a play area for children so that you can shop at leisure.

Donations - If you have any books and/or DVDs you would like to donate to the Book Sale, we would ask you to bring them to the main entrance of the Ernst-Mach-Gymnasium between Saturday, 21st September and Saturday 5th October.

Please do make sure that the books are in good sellable condition and please also make a point of keeping to these dates so that we have time to sort and price the books before 11th October.

During school hours please place your donations on the trolley marked Book Sale just inside the main entrance to the school.

Out of school hours please place the books as carefully as possible in the large plastic container (grit box) just to the right of the main entrance doors to the school. The container will be marked Book Sale and will be emptied regularly.

If you have a particularly large donation to bring, please phone Gerlinde or Kirsten (telephone numbers above) to arrange a drop-off time.  Also if you’ve got time and an inclination to help us sort the donations during the 2 weeks immediately before the Sale, please contact Kirsten.

Proceeds - The entire proceeds of the Book Sale will be used to further the partnership between Haar and Ilembula (Tanzania) which was initiated over 30 years ago by the Lutheran Church in Haar. We have to date channeled our funds to promote projects in Ilembula through this partnership, but as the scale of the Book Sale has expanded so rapidly in recent years we have for organizational reasons now taken the step of forming a separate registered charity: Ha-Ile e.V. (= Haar - Ilembula), which will continue to operate within the scope of the partnership.

If you would like to learn more about the activities connected with this initiative and about other items you can donate for the container which we send twice yearly to Tanzania, you will find further details under www.ilembula.de/aktion/annual-booksale. We are also on Facebook under Munich English Book Sale, and on Twitter under @EnglishBookSale.
