On Friday, 17 Jul 2015, Amerikahaus will open its exhibit on 180 Years of Bavarian-American Relations. 

It all started in 1833 when influential Munich banker and manufacturer Robert de Ruedorffer gained the approval of King Ludwig I to establish an American consulate in Munich. After an extended search, Herr de Ruedorffer was named as Munich’s first American Consul General.  The consulate opened in 1835 during a period of Bavarian development and prosperity with an opening ceremony that featured exhibitions portraying fine arts, craftwork, agriculture and industry, all designed to help nurture new market opportunities. 

The new exhibit focuses on the advances in this great relationship, one deep in history with countless interesting, exciting and moving stories on the evolving relationship.  You can learn why President Lincoln corresponded with the Bavarian king, how Bavaria is linked to the US Capitol building doors, etc.    

US Consul General Bill Moeller will open the exhibit, which is sponsored by the US Consulate Munich and the Stiftung Bayerisches Amerikahaus.
