The movie “Mudbound” follows the story of two men – one white, one black – returning home from WWII to life in the Mississippi Delta. As their families struggle to share the land, they discover that what they hold in common is truer than what tears them apart.

In 2017, it was adapted into a critically acclaimed film that was acquired by Netflix after its debut at the Sundance Film Festival. The story is based on the much appraised book Mudbound by Hillary Jordan.

The movie has earned numerous accolades and honors, including four Academy Award nominations. Directed by Dee Rees, with a script co-written by her and Virgil Williams, it stars Carey Mulligan, Mary J. Blige, Garrett Hedlund, Jason Clarke, Jason Mitchell, Jonathan Banks, and Rob Morgan. The Washington Post declared it “the best picture of the year.”  Note mainly for her musical talents, Mary J. Blige was nominated for the 2017 Actress in a Support Role Oscar for Mudbound.

After the screening will be a conversation with Prof. Dr. Heike Paul (FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg) and Hillary Jordan, author of the book, followed by a Q&A with the audience.
