At this IBN sponsored event, Professor Roy Foster from Oxford will speak on the Irish Exit from the British Empire, in particular the event of the Easter rising 1916. This is where the proclamation of independence declaring Ireland a republic was first read, significantly in the central post office in Dublin.  It is told that inspired by the Irish principles of independence in fulfilling his mission in India, Gandhi carried a copy with him until his death, and the significance of this event is quite relevant to our lives today.

If you are interested in history (i.e. how it is written and remembered), politics, and/or humanitarian issues, please join us to learn and to ask questions and get responses from Professor Foster.  Some facets of the Easter Rising can have parallels with or effects on:

1.    Concept of Nation & EU

2.    Brexit

3.    Reunification of Germany

4.    Equal rights

The initiator and organizer of the event is Cillian Ó Donnabháin, Examiner at the European Patent Office.  If you cannot attend in person please share via email with your contacts.
